Bangladesh secured a convincing 10-wicket victory in the third T20I against the USA at the Prairie View Cricket Complex in Houston, Texas, to end USA’s six-match winning streak. Despite this loss, the USA had already secured the series win by winning the first two matches, marking their first-ever series victory against an ICC Full Member Nation.
After winning the toss and electing to bowl, Bangladesh restricted the USA to a modest total of 104/9 in 20 overs. Andries Gous (27 off 15) and Shayan Jahangir (18 off 20) provided a solid start, but Mustafizur Rahman’s 6/10 dismantled the middle order. Another notable achievement came in from Shakib Al Hasan, who, with Gous’ wicket, captured his 700th international wicket. He is the 17th cricketer to reach such a milestone.
The USA made four changes to their playing eleven, with Monank Patel, Steven Taylor, Ali Khan, and Harmeet Singh rested for the last match of the series. Bangladesh capitalized on this decision as the USA struggled to build momentum throughout their innings. The middle order collapsed under pressure, with Corey Anderson (18 off 18) and Shadley van Schalkwyk (12 of 17) being the only other batsmen to reach double figures.
Bangladesh openers Tanzid Hasan and Soumya Sarkar quickly chased the target, reaching 108 with 50 balls to spare. Tanzid Hasan led the charge with an unbeaten 58 off 42 balls, while Soumya Sarkar supported him well with a fluent 43 off 28 balls.
Despite Bangladesh’s comprehensive win in the third T20I, the USA emerged victorious in the series, having won the first two matches, giving them a significant boost as they prepare for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup.
The USA and Bangladesh will face each other again in a warm-up game on May 28 at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas, Texas. The USA will also play against Nepal on May 30 in Dallas before starting their 2024 T20I World Cup campaign against Canada on June 1 on the same ground.
