Houston, TX, April 13, 2024: The USA men’s cricket team inflicted a 4-0 series sweep on Canada, after clinching the fifth and final T20 International (T20I) at the Praire View ground here by four wickets. Debutant and Player of the Match Nitish Kumar (64 off 38), and former New Zealand international Corey Anderson (55 off 48) stitched a crucial 104-run fourth wicket partnership, as the hosts chased down a competitive 168 off the penultimate ball of the match.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Canada were well served again by attacking opener Aaron Johnson who hit a fluent 23-ball 33, studded with three 4s and two 6s.
Harsh Thaker then gave the Canada innings momentum with three sixes in a 24-ball 38, before an unbeaten 39-run sixth wicket stand between skipper Saad Bin Zafar (20* n.o. off 13) and Dilpreet Bajwa (33*n.o, off 24), ended the innings on a high for the visitors.
Corey Anderson, playing only his second T20 International for the United States, blasted his third fifty in the format at the front end of the chase, coming in with his side in a spot of bother with the score reading 9/3 in the second over. Saad Bin Zafar claimed two in two off his first two balls in the second over.
After Corey was dismissed in the 14th over, Nitish, a former Canadian international, took over the chase admirably with some tremendous shots, but when Uday Bhagwan Singh got him in the 17th, there was still 29 to get.
Shadley Van Schalkwyk also did not last long but Player of the Series Harmeet Singh, (14* n.o off 8) then got together with Nisarg Patel (13* n.o. off 8) for some lusty blows, ensuring no further hiccups, as team USA romped home comfortably in the end.
