USA Cricket announces the transition of captaincy for the women’s national team from Sindhu Sriharsha to Aditiba Chudasama, who will begin her new leadership role with the tour to Zimbabwe for a 5-match ODI series from October 17-28, 2024.

After thoughtful consideration and planning for the future success of the women’s national team, the Women’s National Selection Panel in consultation with Head Coach Hilton Moreeng, decided that the replacement be made at this time. The move gives the new captain an opportunity to get acclimatized to the role ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup Americas Qualifier in the first quarter of 2025.

The timing also gives Chudasama time to develop as a captain ahead of major events such as the T20 World Cup Qualifying cycles for 2026, 2028, a potential Summer Olympics in 2028 and beyond. With USA Cricket’s recently announced National Training Groups for women and under 19s, it is anticipated that other players will have opportunities to gain leadership skills as a part of the rotation policy.

Sriharsha has captained the women’s team since 2017 and led the national team to three ICC T20 World Cup Americas Qualifier series wins over the period. In other international encounters under her leadership, the team has performed valiantly. Her most notable individual performance has been her 74 not out knock against Bangladesh in the 2022 ICC T20 Women’s World Cup Qualifier in sweltering Abu Dhabi heat.

More significant than the wins have been Sriharsha’s mentorship and steadying of the ship through the squad’s transition from senior to mostly junior players in 2021. Sriharsha provided experience and maturity to the team, and has been an inspiration as a mother who balances her family life with the demands of competitive cricket, showcasing her dedication and resilience in both roles.

Women’s National Selection Panel Chair, Amer Afzaluddin, said, “I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Sindhu for leading the team over the last seven years with remarkable commitment and dignity. As the most capped player for the women’s team, her work ethic and dedication have been extraordinary. USA Cricket is fortunate to have such a stalwart in Sindhu, and we look forward to her contributions to the team as an experienced and senior player, as we transition into a new phase.” The transition of captaincy to New Jersey-native Chudasama is another step toward USA Cricket’s continued and growing commitment to building a successful women’s team for the future.

Following USA Cricket’s establishment of an under 19 national program in 2021, the then selection panel’s decision to provide young players early exposure to international cricket, has contributed to the accelerated development of these age-group players.

Afzaluddin added, “Aditiba Chudasama has showcased exceptional all-round ability, consistent performances, and impressive leadership. We’re excited to have her at the helm as she leads the team into an exciting new chapter!”

USA Cricket expresses its appreciation to Sindhu Sriharsha’s family for their support, as well Sriharsha’s sacrifices to always give her best, her valiant contributions to the team, and dedication as captain and player of the women’s national team.
