- Men’s Under 19 Zonal Trials announced for 2022/2023
- The Zonal Trials are the first step on the pathway towards the 2023 U19 Nationals and the 2023 ICC U19 Cricket World Cup Americas Qualifier
- Zonal U19 Training Groups of 20-26 players to be selected from these trials
USA Cricket today is pleased to announce open registrations for Under 19 Men’s Zonal trials, which will take place next month throughout December 2022. To be eligible to participate in the trials, players must be current members of USA Cricket and have been born on, or after, September 1st, 2004 and before August 31st, 2007.
These trials are the first step on the pathway towards next year’s USA Cricket Men’s Under 19 National Championships, and then onto the critically important ICC U19 Cricket World Cup Americas Qualifier which is scheduled for 2023 to decide the Americas representative at the 2024 edition of the ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup.
Zonal Selectors appointed by USA Cricket will be tasked with selecting Zonal Training Groups of 20-26 from these trials for all six of the USA Cricket Zones. The Zonal Training Groups will give players the opportunity to train together in regionalized hubs and develop all aspects of their game with USA Cricket support staff and structures. These are only the initial Training Groups and there will be the opportunity for further players to progress into the groups, where justified, as the national system continues to evolve and support the increased monitoring of performances across local leagues and other domestic cricket during what is hoped to be a full calendar of cricket in 2023.
The trials will be conducted in all six Zones during the first three weekends of December, with consideration being given to where most registered participants reside so as to minimize travel. Once registrations close, then further details on format for the trials as well as the host venues, and exact dates and times will be announced on the USA Cricket website.
The interim USA Cricket CEO, Vinay Bhimjiani said, “Qualification for the next Under 19 Men’s Cricket World Cup is a definite target for USA Cricket, and today’s announcement of the open U19 Zonal Trials is a very positive one for us in helping to discover the best young Men’s cricketers from across the United States. We want to ensure two things, firstly that we give everyone eligible across the country a chance to be seen and secondly that those who were selected get the best preparation looking ahead to next summer’s tournament. The Men’s Under 19 Zonal Trials will achieve both of these goals and we look forward to the best young cricketers in the country being given their opportunity.”
USA Cricket Board Director, and Chair of the Development Committee Venu Pisike, added, “One of the biggest focuses in recent years for USA Cricket has been to assist our home-grown talent in developing and giving them as many opportunities as possible. We are continuing to focus on expanding the net of players that are involved in USA Cricket youth programs and getting as many young boys and girls into our systems. We would like to thank the incredible work of the Volunteer Youth Coordinators and other key administrators and coaches across the country in helping to make the logistics of these competitions and trials possible. We all believe that we have some of the best young talent in the Americas region and we want to give it the opportunity to be showcased on a Zonal and National level across our youth age-groups.”
