Oman have defeated USA by 89 runs in the second match of the three match, 50 over series to take an unassailable 2-0 lead today in Muscat.

Oman elected to bat first having won the toss, but another good performance with the ball and in the field by the US saw the hosts restricted to 189/9 from their 50 overs.

Timil Patel was the star as he was hugely impressive with his leg-spin causing problems throughout his spell, finishing with 4 for 28 from his allotment of 10 overs, whilst opening quick Elmore Hutchinson had the fantastic economy rate of 2.0, conceding just 12 runs in his 6 overs to go along with his one wicket.

In response the US batsman simply couldn’t get going. Not only was scoring difficult on a track that was getting lower and slower, but a steady stream of wickets meant they never looked like challenging the target set by Oman, in the end being dismissed for an even 100 in the 41st over.

Four players got to double figures, but none of them could go onto a big score which was so desperately needed. Ravi Timbawala top scored with 24, whilst for Oman Khawar Ali recorded his team’s best bowling figures with 3 for 21 for Oman.

With a rest day tomorrow to regroup, the US will look ahead to the final match of the series on Thursday, and an opportunity to finish the tour on a successful note so they can book-end the tour with wins in the first and final matches of the Middle East Tour.
