USA Cricket joins in the celebration of International Women’s Day with the launch of new web pages dedicated to women and girls’ cricket, supported by the initiative to engage females as interns within the organization.

Celebrating International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated throughout the world to recognize the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It is a day not only to celebrate women’s achievements but also to educate and raise awareness about gender equality and call to action to accelerate gender parity.

The IWD 2024’s theme is to Inspire Inclusion. According to IWD, “When we inspire others to understand and value women’s inclusion, we forge a better world. And when women themselves are inspired to be included, there’s a sense of belonging, relevance and empowerment.”

USA Cricket’s New Web Pages for Women and Girls

In an effort to amplify the voices and visibility of women and girls in cricket, USA Cricket has unveiled new web pages dedicated specifically to them. These pages serve as the one-stop shop for women’s cricket news, blogs written by female interns, information about women’s intraregional teams in the domestic pathway, and a growing hub of resources to support the development of women’s cricket.

As the creator of the majority of the web content, women’s voices are shaping the narrative and championing equality on and off the field.

FutureShaper Women’s Internship Program

In September 2023, USA Cricket launched the FutureShaper Women’s Internship Program. The first cohort of 8 interns began in October and served a 3-month assignment while the second cohort of 11 interns began last month and will serve for five months. Interns are assigned to roles in Digital Editorial, Graphic Design and Marketing and Events.

This internship program provides invaluable hands-on experience for aspiring women leaders in the cricketing and business world, as well as contributing to building a pipeline for future professionals within USA Cricket.

In addition to USA Cricket’s 11 FutureShaper Interns, off the field there are 14 Women Volunteer Team Coordinators, 9 women serving on USA Cricket Board Committees and 2 women serving on the USA Cricket Board. USA Cricket is fostering a more inclusive and equitable environment within the administration and governance of the organization. By creating dedicated platforms and opportunities for women, USA Cricket is enriching the cricketing community as a whole.

Board Member and Women’s Cricket Committee Chair, Nadia Gruny said, “We have a lot to celebrate on this International Women’s Day. The launch of the dedicated women and girls’ web pages and the women’s internship program are steps towards inclusivity and gender equity, and we hope these types of initiatives encourage more women and girls to get involved with cricket, on and off the field.”

USA Cricket continues to strive for progress and equality and we pledge our commitment to a future where every woman and girl has the opportunity to succeed in the area of cricket they wish to pursue.
